As a full time Healthcare Support Worker on our 26 bedded Midgley Ward which specialises in Respiratory and Acute Medicine you will provide high standards of care to our patients while working both independently and as part of a team, prioritising your workload to ensure quality care and demonstrate a caring and compassionate approach.
The ideal candidate will have some care experience and will be able to work night shifts. We offer a period of supernumerary time to support you into your role, and further learning and development are encouraged.
Main duties of the job
- We are looking for a caring and compassionate person who is able to work within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a high standard of individualised nursing care to our patients.
- You will need excellent communication skills, and be able to work as part of a team, prioritising your workload to ensure the best outcomes for patients.
- You will ensure that your own actions support the care, protection and well-being of individuals, and ensure their privacy and dignity at all times.
- Duties include monitoring and recording of vital signs, escorting patients off the ward for investigations/scans, assisting with personal care and nutritional support.
- You will need to be flexible as this post includes days, nights and weekend working.
Main duties of the job
You will work as a team to assist and perform clinical responsibilities as delegated by our qualified nursing staff, including though not limited to:
- Observing, monitoring and recording patients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations, oxygen saturations and weight.
- As well as providing personalised care such as infection prevention and control, food, personal hygiene and overall reassurance, comfort and safety.
- Administrative duties such as answer the telephone, take messages and refer to the Staff Nurse for instructions, to take part as requested in ward/unit meetings, encouraging effective communications between other staff.
- Assisting with the undertaking and implementation of risk assessments
- Communicating with Staff, Patients, Relatives and Carers.
- Recognising and responding to situations within the work area and report to the nurse in charge while acknowledging your own limitations and seeking advice of senior staff as required.
