Job overview

Working under the supervision of the qualified nurse, the HCSW will participate and support the members of the multi-disciplinary team in delivering high quality patient care.

Band 3 HCSW's will be expected to carry out skills depending upon the requirements of the clinical area.

Main duties of the job

To support clinicians in the running of clinics; performing any clinical observations that may be required beforehand.

Supporting nursing or other clinical staff with blood testing.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To assist with nursing care and instructed by clinicians or the registered nursing staff.

To assist with moving and handling of patients and loads, using the correct moving and handling aids and techniques, in accordance with Trust policy, local guidelines and risk assessments.

To ensure that patient privacy and dignity are respected at all times and that nursing care is patient focused.

To demonstrate an awareness of the importance of patient confidentiality and to ensure a safe and secure environment at all times.

To perform patient observations, for example, temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respirations, urinalysis, heigh and weight, ECGs and dopplers, and other skills to be obtained with extra training.

To work within own personal/professional limitations and seek help or others to maintain safe practice.
