Job overview

The HCA within sexual health services will work in a busy integrated sexual health environment, within a multidisciplinary team. The staffing structure is designed to support the delivery of core services at the service hubs based at Wheatbridge &, spokes in a variety of locations throughout North Derbyshire including High Peak.

You will be expected to work at various clinic locations, including in the High Peak and at the Hub in Wheatbridge - a valid driving license and vehicle for work is essential for this role.

Main duties of the job

To be able to demonstrate through training, the key STIs (including HIV), their transmission, clinical presentation, and diagnosis.

Provide quality care and behave in a professional manner at all times in order to meet agreed Trust and National standards when undertaking procedures such as: registering, advising and supporting patients in the clinical setting to undertake self-administered asymptomatic screens in line with BASHH guidance, performing follow up tests, coding all clinical contacts, clinical observations, performing venepuncture, HIV laboratory testing, and point of care testing, urine testing, pregnancy testing, gram staining, performing diagnostic microscopy and other duties.

With the appropriate training, to provide support and assistance with Vasectomy clinics.

Ensure clinic environment is properly prepared to a high standard to receive patients.

Assist the registered nurses and doctors with assessment of clinical needs, within the clinical setting in a responsive and professional manner.

When required, to support the smooth running of the clinic, provide a reception service and make appointments for patients. This will involve asking sensitive questions of patients.
