Main duties of the job

  • Following training and assessment record routine observations of weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiratory rate and pain scores.  Report any abnormalities and concerns to a Registered Nurse.
  • Following training and assessment perform  venepuncture, microscopy, administer HIV point of care tests, pregnancy tests and urinalysis reporting abnormalities to the nurse in charge.
  • Following training and assessment, undertake screening for sexually transmitted infections including male urethral swabs, skin swabs and male and female throat swabs.
  • Measure, record and report capillary blood glucose levels of patients when required.
  • Recognise when patients are in pain and discomfort and report to nurse in charge.
  • Preparation and assisting with clinical procedures including chaperoning.
