The role:

The main role for the Health Visitor (HV) is to be the designated HV for all Children within their caseload from antenatal to school entry age, excluding the unborn child. This requires the HV to commence the child’s planning process.

To discharge these responsibilities, the postholder will have a responsibility to monitor the child’s well-being and assess if a need is identified. They will work in partnership with the child’s family and all involved agencies to produce a child’s plan which will need to be monitored.

In discharging these responsibilities, the postholder is responsible and accountable for maintaining clinical, staff and information governance.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • This is a fixed-term post for the 31st of May 2027
  • This is a part-time post for 18 hours.

The shift pattern will be on alternate weeks:

  • Week 1: Monday and Friday
  • Week 2: Monday, Thursday and Friday
  • You will be based at Rowan Park

Please note salary will be pro- rata.

Key responsibilities:

The Health Visitor is an autonomous practitioner who will practice within the legal and ethical framework of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and national legislation, and who has overall responsibility for the supervision/management of a health visiting caseload, being accountable for the quality of care delivered through robust assessment, referral and communication processes and implementation of evidence based practice interventions to address need. This includes responsibility for the day-to-day delegation and reviewing of work undertaken by team members. The caseload size will be determined locally utilising the national weight load measurement tool as applied to the population of the HSCP within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. Derived from the child population either, within the GP practice/clusters/geographical locality.

The Health Visitor will work collectively within multi-disciplinary/agency teams to identify, plan for and address the wider Public Health needs of the Health Improvement Agenda. Skills required include the provision of highly specialised advice, parenting skills, health promotion, health education and psycho-social interventions. At times high-level health visiting interventions are required when dealing with issues such as child protection, domestic abuse, addictions, peri-natal illness, and children affected by disability and/or life limiting illnesses.

The Health Visitor will provide reciprocal cover and support for the wider health visitor caseloads in the absence of the designated caseload holder in order to provide clinical leadership and ensure the continuation of service delivery.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • Educated to Masters level in a relevant nursing area, or
  • Can demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge gained through, for example, completion of NES modules on Assessment, Leadership, and Critical Thinking.
  • Can provide advice using significant understanding and application of legislation relating to information sharing, data storage and public protection
  • Knowledge of health and social care pathways related to safeguarding, early intervention and protection
