Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Directorate of Sexual and Reproductive Health for a Health Care Support Worker (HCSW).  You will work across the service to support clinical staff to undertake procedures.  You will be part of an essential HCSW group who's role is integral to assist the Pan Gwent Team in delivering first class care to the citizens of Gwent.

You will report to the Nursing Team Lead for community.

Main duties of the job

To independently undertake unsupervised asymptomatic screening on Patients who have undertaken a self-assessment/service triage and to be  responsible for the management and storage of the samples following  collection. • To undertake the laying up of clinical areas and trolleys for the collection of samples and for the delivery of some methods of contraception e.g. coil insertion/removal and implant insertion/removal and to act as a chaperone • To independently perform venepuncture where service users have undertaken a self-assessment facilitated by the Blithe IT assessment software. • To utilise a modified assessment tool in the assessment of risks of domestic violence via routine enquiry RE1 form, and sexual exploitation risk assessment via SERAF form, available on Blithe IT software and to understand when a patient must be referred to appropriate person. • Able to process chain of evidence samples in line with departmental standards i.e. sexual assault • The post holder will demonstrate empathy, reassuring and negotiating skills when dealing with physically and emotionally sensitive and complex issues, recognising when to refer e.g. Domestic abuse and Child Sexual Exploitation. that requires immediate supervision. • The post holder will at every opportunity promote the health of the patients of all sexual orientations, and will include maintenance of sexual health.

To independently undertake unsupervised asymptomatic screening on Patients who have undertaken a self-assessment/service triage and to be  responsible for the management and storage of the samples following  collection. • To undertake the laying up of clinical areas and trolleys for the collectionofsamples and for the delivery of some methods of contraception e.g. coil insertion/removal and implant insertion/removal and to act as a chaperone • To be able to recognise when the patients’ needs do not fulfil the criteria for HCSW processing and requires referral for a higher level of care, and to be able to assist patient with relevant pathway (e.g. referral to Unplanned Pregnancy Service) • To independently perform venepuncture where service users have undertaken a self-assessment facilitated by the Blithe IT assessment software. • To utilise a modified assessment tool in the assessment of risks of domestic violence via routine enquiry RE1 form, and sexual exploitation risk assessment via SERAF form, available on Blithe IT software and to understand when a patient must be referred to appropriate person. • Able to process chain of evidence samples in line with departmental standards i.e. sexual assault • The post holder will demonstrate empathy, reassuring and negotiating skills when dealing with physically and emotionally sensitive and complex issues, recognising when to refer e.g. Domestic abuse and Child Sexual Exploitation.
