Ward 14 is looking for a Full time (37.5 hours per week) Band 2/3 HCA who is able to for work long days, nights, weekends and Bank Holidays.

The successful candidate must have an interest in working with Elderly patients and be able to meet their activities of daily living and focus on rehabilitation and emotional support for both the patient and their family.

PLEASE NOTE - ensure your supporting statement is written inline with the care of the elderly, detailing how you meet the criteria stated in the person specification.

The successful candidate will work as a member of a multi disciplinary team. The team is looking for an enthusiastic, reliable, non-judgemental individual, possessing good organisational and communication skills.

Main duties of the job

The post Holder will work under the direct supervision of Registered Nursing Staff as part of the multidisciplinary ward/departmental team undertaking duties in relation to direct fundamental patient care and a full range of support functions that may include clerical duties.

The post holder will deliver delegated, supervised work as assigned by a Registered Nurse as appropriate, ensuring that there is continual feedback to the Registered nurse about the patient’s condition.

The post holder will contribute to the delivery of quality patient care to meet the physical, psychological and social needs of patients maintaining privacy and dignity at all times.

The post holder will work as part of the team, supporting registered nurses and nursing associates to meet patients  activities of daily living.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. Personal Care Assistance

  • Help patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as: Bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting. Assisting with mobility and positioning in bed or wheelchair. Helping with eating and drinking, ensuring proper nutrition and hydration.

2. Observation and Monitoring

  • Monitor patients’ physical and mental health, noting any changes in behavior, mood, or physical condition.
  • Report any concerns or abnormalities to the nursing staff or medical team promptly.
  • Keep accurate records of care given, including food and fluid intake, vital signs, and any incidents.

3. Supporting Dementia Patients’ Needs

  • Use effective communication techniques tailored to dementia patients, such as simple language and non-verbal cues.
  • Provide reassurance and emotional support to reduce anxiety and agitation.
  • Help manage challenging behaviors in a calm and patient manner.
  • Encourage engagement in activities to promote mental stimulation and maintain cognitive function.
