Main duties of the job
- The Healthcare Assistant will be an integral member of the ward/department team responsible for the delivery of fundamental care to patients in a safe, caring and compassionate manner under the supervision and guidance of a registered nurse/she must never undertake duties for which he/she is neither qualified nor trained to perform.
- The Healthcare Assistant will primarily work within one ward are / Directorate, on occasions to Meet service needs and requirements the Healthcare Assistant will be required to work anywhere within The Trust. The Healthcare Assistant will work under the supervision of a Registered Practitioner.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
In accordance with patients individual care plan, support patients to meet and maintain their hygiene needs, this may include actions such as:
HYGIENE NEEDS
- Undertake total hygiene needs for patients
- Assist patients to wash and dress
- Assist patients to shower
- Assist patients with / undertake mouth care, c/o teeth / dentures
- Assist with / undertake care of hair
- Assist with / undertake nail care
- Undertake eye care
- Assist patients with / undertake shaving
- Reporting and documentation of all patient care activities, to include improvement, deterioration and changes
ELIMINATION NEEDS
In accordance with patients individual care plan, support patients to meet and maintain their elimination needs, this may include actions such as:
- Assisting patients to use the most appropriate toilet facility
- Mobilisation to toilet or use of commode or bed pan
- Assistance to meet hygiene needs prior to and after using toilet /commode / bedpan / episodes of incontinence
- Emptying urinary catheter bags
- Undertake catheter care and hygiene
- Assist with / undertake stoma care
- Completion of fluid balance / bowel chart / continence charts
