As a member of the team works co-operatively with the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will ensure the highest possible standards of care are received by patients and their carers while in the units. Works within agreed boundaries of practice giving support to the nurse in charge of the shift and other members of the senior nursing team.

Main duties of the job
- a) To work effectively as a team member in providing and facilitating a high standard of nursing, social and rehabilitative support in the urgent care setting. b) Under the supervision of a qualified practitioner, participate in undertaking prescribed treatments for patients. c) To report variances in a patient’s condition or any concerns immediately to a relevant professional. d) To maintain standards of cleanliness of the UTC/CAU and patient areas. e) To undertake nursing tasks under the supervision of a qualified practitioner i.e., vital signs. f) To work with other team members to meet nutritional needs of patients using the service when appropriate. g) To support the use of prescribed equipment if necessary and practice it’s safe use with the patient (e.g. walking frames, crutches). h) To liaise with members of the team within the department, ensuring care is delivered to the patient both effectively and efficiently. i) To support the trained nursing team ensuring the maintenance of high standards of nursing care. To provide Personal Care to patients, including nutrition, hygiene, and toileting, and to foster patients independence. j) Has a responsibility in ensuring the privacy, dignity and confidentiality of patients, relatives and colleagues is respected at all times. k) May handle patient property and valuables
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- a) Assists in the organisation of the activities for the day supporting staff in the delivery and evaluation of care organising the consulting room, application of dressings. b) Initiates emergency treatment and/or actions where necessary, within own scope of skills and experience. c) Ensures that all staff and pre-registration students are aware of emergency procedures to follow. d) Responsible for monitoring, maintaining and ordering of some stock items. e) Ensures that all medical and emergency equipment is kept in a safe condition and is ready for use when required, and that faulty equipment is reported and/or replaced as necessary. f) Supports others in the application of local standards, policies and philosophies which further the philosophy of patient centred, individual and evidence based care for all patients. g) Is aware of legislation and responsibilities under the Health & safety at work act. Is aware of and follows policies and procedures with regard to patients, themselves, other members of staff, equipment and the general public. h) To record personal sickness and absence and report appropriately. i) Participates in the appraisal process. j) Maintaining safety of the patients in the Units. k) Supporting other members of the team in maintenance of high standards of care. l) Updates relevant staff on the clinical condition of patients, their progress and maintains accurate nursing records for patients in the unit.
