North Kent Pathology Service is a joint venture between Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust and Medway Foundation NHS Trust and the post holder may be required to undertake duties at any location across North Kent Pathology Service in order to meet service needs.
The post holder will be responsible for the provision of a safe, effective and patient focused Blood Transfusion & Haematology Service across North Kent Pathology Service (NKPS) and will be predominantly based at the North Kent Pathology Service hub, Darent Valley Hospital. The post holder will take the lead in managing a high quality Blood Transfusion & Haematology service provided at both sites.
They will be responsible for the overall management of the Blood Transfusion & Haematology Service and associated Departments; making effective use of available resources and maintaining a cost efficient, quality based optimal service across the areas of responsibility.
The post holder will ensure that the service runs smoothly and efficiently over the 24-hour period, ensuring the adoption and alignment to national guidance and local pathways processes and protocols. This includes drafting, implementing and reviewing departmental policies and guidelines.
Manage and support Blood Transfusion & Haematology service delivery across the local communities within Dartford, Medway, Swale and parts of Bexley, together with acute trusts for Medway Maritime NHS Foundation Trust and Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust.
Supporting the implementation of a range of new equipment platforms and workforce model within Blood Transfusion & Haematology at Dartford Hub and Medway spoke service.
This position is critical to the Blood Transfusion & Haematology transformation and development of the Kent and Medway Pathology Network service alignment.
This position will not be supported for visa sponsorship. All applicants are expected to have valid right to work document to work in the UK when applying for this position.
The effective day-to-day management of the optimal service for areas of responsibility across NKPS at the Hub (Darent Valley Hospital) and Spoke site (Medway Maritime Hospitals).
Is the Authorised signatory for a pay and non-pay budget within area of responsibility.
Responsible for monitoring and management the allocated budget, responsible for the management of resources within financial allocation.
Responsible for the overall training, development and adherence to service requirement of all staff within the Department
Accountable for the strategic development of the service in liaison with the Haematology Consultants and General Manager of NKPS, to ensure that national standards are achieved and maintained in accordance with UKAS and associated national guidelines.
To deputise for the General Manager of NKPS as and when required and requested by the General Manager
Accountable for monitoring of standards, using both internal and external quality control and internal audit as tools – rectifying any areas of substandard service provision, quality standards and adherence to accreditation or legislative compliance.
To ensure the development of Standard Operating Procedures, SLAs, Policies and Processes aligned to accreditation standards and mandatory compliance as set out by governing bodies.
To ensure there are effective communication channels with departmental staff, peers, users of the service and colleagues from other Trusts.
To contribute to the integrated service for the Kent and Medway Pathology Network and other aligned Networks across the region and neighbouring UK.
To support agreed pathways and innovation relating to staff within the Department internally within the Trust and in relation to the Kent and Medway Pathology Network.
To operationally manage the BMS staff and aligned departmental teams, providing appropriate support and guidance to ensure optimal service delivery, staff wellbeing and development.
To provide strategic and operational leadership for all members of the team and to maintain and develop the service aligned to best practice and patient focused pathways.
Ensure the effective delivery and maintenance of optimal diagnostic pathology service.
In conjunction with other Laboratory Managers, facilitate transformation programmes and innovation to ensure the service is managed to best practice standards aligned to the annual plan for Pathology Service provision, including staff development / workforce plans.
To ensure Trusts requirements to manage the service across two organisations are aligned to the Dartford and Gravesham values and behaviours, NKPS staff are supported to progress according to the Trusts standards regardless of the site on which based.
Responsible for the harmonisation and service transformation aligned to the requirements of: UKAS and MHRA.
To ensure that the service is compliant with the EU directive on Blood Safety and Quality Regulations 2005.
