Job overview

This is an exciting time to join NUH in this new and high profile role.

The Education function is critical to the development of new service delivery models and bringing together new and existing functions under one ‘education and learning’ umbrella. As a teaching hospital, we are instrumental in the education and training of doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals. We are proud of our strong relationships with universities across the East Midlands, including the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and Loughborough University.

This is a prominent and significant senior role that has been newly created during a period of rapid organsational change to lead the organsational vision for education and deliver the ambitions of our 3-year ‘Education and Learning Strategy’. Our ambition is to grow, attract and retain our people through the development of a Centre of Excellence where we can further provide high quality access to learning and sharing of expertise and resources to deliver quality of care. We are investing in our current and future workforce, building new models of education delivery, bringing specialist and key functions together within a cohesive framework, setting up new faculty arrangements and education governance systems, refocusing our commercial agenda, managing large scale 3rd party provider contracts and building on strong partnerships with key stakeholders.

Main duties of the job

The Head of Education will provide professional leadership and work closely with senior colleagues, Universities/HEIs, commercial partners, professional and regulatory bodies and other senior stakeholders to support the delivery of strategic and operational education projects and initiatives through a proactive, positive and customer-focused approach. The role requires a good grounding and extensive prior experience of NHS Education leadership, including working with a faculty framework, a commercially focused approach and the ability to manage large scale transformational change at a senior level.

The successful candidate will need to live and breathe our values of being kind, inclusive, ambitious and working as one team. You will:

  • demonstrate commitment to the needs of the service and its people
  • work beyond the boundaries
  • have a bias towards considered action, with the skill to quickly spot an issue, define the challenge, and move to fix it
  • think creatively to spot opportunities and be tenacious in your determination to execute a plan.

In return you can expect a flexible working environment where you are supported to be challenged, excited and celebrated. You will immediately see that you are genuinely making a difference and the value you add to the Trust and its people.

This role is open to flexible and hybrid working
