Clinical Fellow in Glaucoma
This post offers advanced specialist training for 1 year in Glaucoma to be based at the Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust
The post is suitable for an ophthalmologist nearing the end of their training or already in possession of CCT. It offers post accreditation experience beyond traditional UK registrar rotations for ophthalmologists wishing to specialize in glaucoma.
The glaucoma workload is complex and often managed across multiple subspecialties. Clinical sessions are directly supervised by one of two glaucoma consultants, all of whom offer a wide range of both traditional filtering surgery and newer minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, namely Preserflo Microshunt, Miniiject, trabeculotomy . In addition to gaining significant experience in these newer modalities of glaucoma therapy, fellows can also expect to become fully trained independent trabeculectomy surgeons by the end of the fellowship.
Fellows are also expected to undertake both supervised and independent cataract surgery lists, during which there is significant exposure to angle closure eyes.
Key attributes for potential applicants include strong team working skills, and an enthusiastic approach towards contributing to the work of the department.
The post holder will have the opportunity to attend outpatient clinics, and specialist clinics (for example Glaucoma and macular degeneration). The post will include covering the urgent clinics and on-call emergency duties from Monday morning to Saturday lunch time.
