Bluebird Lodge is a community hospital based in Ipswich. Here we provide a service for people who require reablement and rehabilitation.

Bluebird Lodge has 28 inpatient beds and the team is made up from nurses, health care support workers, generic workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and other allied health professionals.

Bluebird Lodge caters for a wide range of patients who require rehabilitation following a hospital stay or admission from the community setting.

As a Generic worker you will support the wider team in providing a high standard of care for our patients.  This includes actively planning our patients discharges, inline with their rehabilitation goals, whilst assisting and promoting independence with activities of daily living.

At Bluebird Lodge we receive patients with different needs. This includes rehabilitation, however at times our patients require medical support, such as Intravenous antibiotics, Piccline care, Peg care etc.

As a generic worker you will work alongside the nursing and therapy team completing delegated tasks from registered practitioners. Carrying out routine elements of assessment, working to care plans, carrying out delegated care/therapy interventions.

Main duties of the job

  • To meet the direct and indirect care needs of patients under the delegation and supervision of a registered nurse. Including specific skilled support with wound care management, pressure ulcer prevention and additional patient support with stoma teaching for example.
  • To provide a reablement approach to supporting patients with personal care including bathing, toileting and feeding.
  • To provide specific skilled support to the registered therapists in providing rehabilitation from set rehabilitation plans alongside the therapy team and helping to facilitate patient’s to achieve their goals and support timely discharges.
  • To be able to work flexibly over a 7 day service.
  • To establish effective communication across the multi-disciplinary team to ensure high quality care for our patients, families and carers.
  • To support in the identification and issuing of equipment required for patient use on the ward.
