Job overview

GI Surgery is delighted to be offering four General Surgery Resident Doctor positions.

General Surgery SHO posts x2 (without teaching element):

This post provides specific training and experience in General Surgery, experience on the wards, clinics and in theatres. Duties include clerking patients, initiating management plans, and supporting patient flow to ASU or the wards when other team members are in theatre. The post holder will also provide support and leadership to more junior staff on the team. This position offers equal training opportunities for all members of the team and so the post holder can expect to have sufficient training during this post. There will be opportunity to attend theatre sessions, weekly ward rounds and outpatient clinics.

General Surgery SHO post x2 (with teaching element 20-30%):

This fellowship (split between two SHO post-holders) is equally split between educational (20-30%) and clinical duties (70-80%), designed to provide a teaching opportunity within the undergraduate MBBS programme at UCL and a simultaneous clinical training opportunity at UCLH. It will suit an enthusiastic post-foundation year doctor with an interest to develop his/her career in surgery and to enhance their CV to apply for a National Training Number (NTN) or an Academic clinical fellow.

Both positions will participate in the General Surgery on-call rota.

Please indicate preference for post in supporting statement.

Main duties of the job

This is a suggestive plan and may be subject to change. The timetable will also require a level of flexibility to accommodate the needs of other junior doctors within the General Surgery service. Oncall commitments is not shown below but will be required. You will be either placed on a UGI or LGI ward and required to crosscover depending on service demand.

You will be welcomed into theatre/clinics to gain experience during quieter times on the wards.
