Vacancies have arisen for a general Porters based at Morriston Hospital in Swansea Bay University  Health Board. The posts will be based on one site, although there may be a requirement to work at other Health Board hospitals. We are offering 37.5 hrs contracts and the working pattern will be varied with shifts covering a 24/7 service.

The post holder will be required to undertake a wide range of routine Portering duties including Patient movement, moving and handling, in line with the Portering department and general Health Board policies and procedures, with a commitment to customer care, following on the job training.

They will also be required to provide and maintain a flexible, dedicated, comprehensive support service to departments of the hospitals, under the direction of Portering Coordinator/ Portering Shift Leaders, establishing both clinical and non-clinical departments to function effectively.

The post holder will work as part of a team to provide an efficient Portering services to the Health Board, contributing to first class customer service to all users of the Health Board.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Though under supervision, the post holder is required to use a degree of initiative and deal with routine enquiries under a wide variety of subjects and work practices and procedures. Staff also deal with non-routine enquiries and have the ability to be guided by supervisors, good practice and procedures in both areas. Supervisors are generally available for reference and all enquiries. Frequent exposure to traumatic circumstances especially when dealing with Major Trauma / RTA whilst working in Accident & Emergency Department, Mortuary etc. Frequent transportation of deceased patients, (including babies) to the mortuary. Contact with deceased patient’s relatives is always under supervision of others, however, portering staff will have regular contact as part of this process e.g. Accompanying relative to the mortuary.
