Job overview

To work with clients of TransPlus, Chelsea & Westminster’s Gender Identity Clinic (GIC). To provide specialised GSRD therapy to clients, focussed on challenges they are facing in relating to their gender journey, diagnosis and ongoing gender care. To offer advice and consultation on clients’ GSRD concerns to colleagues. Working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work alongside the MDT within TransPlus, including the Wellbeing Service and other talking therapies services within the team. The post holder would be expected to provide short- to medium term evidence based GSRD therapy to clients and their partners for a range of difficulties related gender dysphoria, and issues relating to accessing gender affirming care. We also anticipate that the post holder may contribute to the future design of the GSRD pathway within TransPlus, and may in the future have responsibility for supervising trainee GSRD therapists.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To formulate effective GSRD interventions for clients of Chelsea and Westminster gender services, based on the latest evidence.
  • To effectively identify other wider mental health needs arising during the course of therapy and support clients to access this through other therapists in the team or facilitating their care in other services/organisations
  • To take into account queer and trans affirmative models of therapy and consider the impact of wider systems on that persons experience of sexual problems and gender dysphoria
  • To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the timely and effective assessment, treatment and discharge of clients
  • To contribute directly and indirectly to a GSRD and trans-affirmative based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings and agencies serving the client group.
  • To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients where necessary and escalate these concerns to senior members of the therapy team where appropriate.
  • To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients under their care and to monitor progress during the course of both uni- and multi-disciplinary care.
