An opportunity has arisen for a number of Foundation 2 Clinical Fellows in Orthopaedics to join our team. The Foundation 2 Clinical Fellow appointments are to commence for a period of 12 months from 4th August 2026 to 3rd August 2027. There is the potential opportunity to extend beyond this initial period dependent on rota space and mutual agreement. MBBS or equivalent is essential. The posts do not award a National Training Number. As these posts are not recognised as ‘training posts’, full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required. The duties of these posts are equivalent to F2 Level.
This post is ideal for candidates wishing to pursue a career in any surgical specialty as well as orthopaedic Surgery. There is opportunity within this large and prestigious unit to expand on clinical, operative, educational, and academic skills which will assist in becoming competitive for recruitment to higher surgical training programs.
The role will involve ward based duties with opportunities to attend theatres (where availability permits) and clinics once ward rounds have been completed. It is important to be aware that protected theatre time will not be rota’d but time spent in theatre/clinic will be supported by the consultant body. The department has a consultant of the week model with a daily consultant ward round. The successful applicant will have time as the resident of the week to support this ward round and aid continuity of care. For standard days, they will have a base ward which is also staffed by a ward based team of Foundation Level doctors which they will help lead and support before going to theatre/clinic. The successful applicant will be expected to use their leadership and management skills to manage their time and get to theatre. There will be rota’d time at the Sheffield Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SEOC) based at the Royal Hallamshire Site. At The Northern General site they will attend the trauma multi-disciplinary meeting daily each morning.
