Job overview

The post holder will form a key position within the Fire Safety Team and will have responsibility for the day to day fire safety management across the King’s sites.

As part of a team, the post holder will be expected to work closely with their colleagues and work alongside all sub-divisions of CEF. Although based mainly at Denmark Hill, the post holder will be required to work at other sites within the Trust.

Main duties of the job

  • Delivery of all forms of fire training across all sites in the Trust
  • To participate in delivering a quarterly fire safety committee and terms of reference
  • To perform regular inspections and audits of fire safety systems, escape routes, and equipment
  • To give advice on fire safety arrangements for all new projects across the estate
  • To provide fire prevention advice and specialist fire advice on a day to day basis
  • To investigate fire-related incidents and near misses
  • To organise and supervise fire drills and practical evacuation exercises
  • To keep the fire safety documentation database up to date and current
  • To attend all relevant Trust committees and forums
  • To ensure contractor comply with fire safety standards during works
  • To liaise with the London Fire Brigade during emergencies and inspections
  • To liaise with all parties engaged in work process with KCH Trust
  • To liaise with and support the Fire Safety Manager during AE (Fire) audits and inspections.
  • To assist in managing the efficient operation, planning and development of Fire Safety/services, ensuring that their functions are carried out to nationally agreed and recognised standards
  • To assist with the day to day management of all fire safety matters across the estate

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Communication and Representation

  • To assist in delivering a quarterly Fire Safety Committee and terms of  reference
  • To attend all relevant Trust Committees and Forums
  • To be the Trust’s advisor and assist on unwanted fire signals and fires reduction strategy.
  • The role will involve liaison with Trust and external partners
  • To liaise with Local Fire Brigade
  • Attend meetings Estate Wide
  • To act in a manner which will promote a positive image of King’s College Hospital NHS Trust and the CEF Department at all times

Strategy and Planning

  • To provide fire prevention advice and specialist fire advice on a day to day basis
  • To work closely with contract service providers and other contractors to ensure that all aspects of fire safety are adhered to

Operational Performance

  • To assist in managing the efficient operation, planning and development of Fire Safety/services, ensuring that their functions are carried out to nationally agreed and recognised standards.
  • To assist with the day to day management of all fire safety matters across the estate.
  • Provide cover for training sessions and arranged appointments in the absence of  team members.
  • To be responsible, with management support, for their own personal development and to actively contribute to the development of colleagues.
