Job overview

An opportunity has arisen within the Financial Management Team of Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (GOSH) for a Finance Manager. We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and flexible individual to support the finance team and directorate leadership team.

Working within the finance team, the post holder will be responsible for the provision of financial information and guidance to budget holders, ensuring the financial ledgers are properly maintained, developed and fully utilized and assisting in the production of monthly, quarterly and annual reporting requirements. The post holder will also be responsible for an assistant finance manager.

The post holder will be a lead point of contact for the directorates and have the freedom to work closely with multi-professional colleagues to help inform decision making.

The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant, with strong IT and communication skills and the confidence to influence senior managers and clinicians across the Trust. It is also essential that they can demonstrate previous Financial Management experience, preferably within an NHS setting.

Main duties of the job

  • To support the Finance Business Partner and be responsible for the provision of expert financial management service to a varied range of departments and budget holders. This covers the Core Clinical Services, which encompasses nine varied departments ranging from diagnostics to aftercare, making up the largest division within the Trust. Additionally, three Corporate areas are supported, which are based around technology and transformation.
  • To be responsible for the monthly reporting for these areas, including the production of information, cost, and income analysis, forecasting and the presentation of this information.
  • To support unit managers and clinicians in the discharge of their financial responsibilities, including budget setting, the development and identifying of Cost Improvement Scheme (CIP) plans and the financial modelling of service developments.
  • To support the Finance Business Partner in the development and implementation of the Division's medium to long -term financial strategy.
  • To manage, co-ordinate and provide professional support to junior financial management staff.
  • To support the Finance Business Partner, Associate Director of Financial Management & other senior finance staff in the delivery of corporate tasks and objectives.
  • To lead on the production of the month end reporting and production of the accounts for their directorates providing completed accounts for review by Business partners.
