An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join the multidisciplinary team at Dementia Wellbeing Service.  This is a 37.5 hour post within Older Adult Mental Health, providing excellent opportunity to develop and enhance your clinical skills within the OT framework.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering holistic, client centred care, focusing on promoting independence and maintaining functional skills. You will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to support effective post diagnostic rehabilitation for patients.

The position offers a chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of older adults while advancing your professional expertise in a supportive and dynamic environment.

Main duties of the job

The post offers an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic multi-disciplinary team.  You will have a specific interest in Older Adult Mental Health and demonstrate an enthusiasm for the role. You will be keen to develop best practice in compliance with Dementia Standards and A Healthier Wales.

The post holder will be required to develop positive relationships between all healthcare professionals, statutory and voluntary agencies, maintaining good communication across all areas.

The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning and intervention for people living with dementia in the community.

There will be opportunity to develop group work skills and deliver evidenced based interventions such as Journey through Dementia and Home Based Memory Rehabilitation.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post is advertised as a Band 6. However, applicants who do not currently meet all the skills and competences for the Band 6 role are encouraged to apply and, if successful, will be appointed under Agenda for Change Arrangement for Pay and Banding of Trainees (Annex 21) supported by a development plan for 2 years.

During the first year payment will be 70% of the top rate of Band 6 pay, and the second year 75%.

Following successful completion and successful attainment of skills and competences for the role, the post holder will then be paid at Band 6 (minimum point on the scale). Continued support and supervision will be provided in order to develop them into the Band 6 role.

Failure to achieve the competencies in the designated timeframe could result in re-deployment.

As part of the Annex 21 process, there is no financial penalty to those who apply for this role where the percentage will cause a reduction in pay, subsequently a local protection would be put in place until the pay has caught up.

This role is not suitable for a Newly Qualified Occupational Therapist; candidates are required to have gained post‑graduate experience in an Occupational Therapy role.
