Main duties of the job

  • Manage daily operations of the Building Maintenance Team and supporting contractors across Trust sites Lead Trust-wide fire door inspection, maintenance, and installation in line with third-party accreditation (e.g. BM Trada Q-Mark) Oversee building fabric maintenance including walls, floors, ceilings, windows, doors, and external works Monitor and respond to maintenance requests and alarms via CAFM systems (Planet & PlanRadar) Control maintenance and capital budgets, ensuring cost-effective service delivery and identifying cost improvements Recruit, train, and manage building maintenance staff, ensuring compliance with Trust values and policies Ensure statutory and mandatory compliance with fire safety regulations, especially HTM 05-02 Conduct regular inspections, audits, and risk assessments of buildings and fire doors Manage contractors on-site and verify completion of works through job sheets and documentation Maintain accurate records, update asset registers, and ensure data integrity in CAFM systems Participate in the Estates on-call rota and respond to emergencies or major incidents as required Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g. Matrons, Consultants, Directors) and external bodies (e.g. contractors, consultants)

The Works Officer – Building Fabrics (Fire Door Specialist) is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Building Fabric Maintenance Team and ensuring Trust-wide compliance with fire door standards. The role involves overseeing maintenance, inspection, and installation of fire doors and building fabric elements, providing technical expertise, and ensuring statutory compliance. The post holder will support the Engineering Manager – Building, lead service improvement initiatives, manage budgets and resources, and contribute to the Trust’s safety, sustainability, and operational continuity objectives.

  • Operational Leadership: Manage day-to-day building maintenance and fire door compliance across the Trust.
  • Fire Door Compliance: Lead inspection, maintenance, and installation programmes to meet accreditation standards (e.g., BM Trada Q-Mark).
  • Safety & Governance: Ensure compliance with HTM 05-02, Fire Safety Order, and Health & Safety legislation.
  • Team Management: Recruit, train, and supervise staff; maintain skill mix and staffing levels.
