Job overview

We’re looking for a practical, safety-conscious and skilled Estates Water Hygiene Technician to join our Estates and Facilities team at Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust.

In this varied role, you’ll help maintain essential water systems and mechanical services across a range of NHS sites. You’ll also carry out routine water hygiene tasks such as temperature monitoring and tank inspections to help prevent the risk of Legionella. You’ll be part of a supportive team helping to ensure that our facilities remain safe, compliant, and well-maintained for the benefit of patients, staff, and visitors.

Our sites span across Sussex, and we offer flexibility in your base location—this role can be based at one of several sites within the county.

Main duties of the job

As part of the Estates team, you’ll carry out planned and reactive maintenance work on a wide range of plumbing and mechanical systems. Key duties include:

  • Diagnosing and repairing faults on plumbing and mechanical equipment
  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM)
  • Completing water hygiene tasks such as water temperature checks, tank inspections, and TMV servicing
  • Recording all work completed and keeping accurate statutory records
  • Liaising with service users to arrange access and confirm work details
  • Participating in the Trust’s CAFM (Computer Aided Facilities Management) system
  • Supporting and advising apprentices and semi-skilled staff
  • Attending training as required and following all health and safety procedures
  • Participating in the on-call rota (additional pay applies)
