Job overview

Permanent | Full Time | Interviews w/c 20th April

Sheffield Children’s Hospital is seeking to recruit an Estates Officer (Electrical Engineer).

We are looking for apprentice‑trained, fully qualified Electrical Engineers/Electricians with Competent Person and/or Authorised Person training. Applicants should be working towards, or have completed, an HNC/HND and be keen to build a long‑term career within engineering estates management.

This role offers supported development and clear opportunities to progress into an Estates Manager position as skills, experience and competence grow.

You will have a key role in our Estates Operational Team, delivering day‑to‑day planned and reactive engineering maintenance, as well as supporting minor and medium project works.

As a valued member of the team, you’ll help ensure a safe, compliant and efficient environment for our clinical and support services—bringing strong engineering maintenance experience, a solid understanding of compliance, risk assessments and health & safety.

We’re looking for someone enthusiastic, aligned with Sheffield Children’s values, and holding a full UK driving licence. You’ll report directly to the Senior Estates Manager.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Senior Estates Manager, some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Support the safe and effective running of engineering and estates operations.
  • Contribute to planned and reactive maintenance across the hospital site.
  • Assist with minor project works and operational improvements.
  • Take responsibility for allocated tasks, working with minimal supervision once trained.
  • Build experience across compliance, safety, risk management and estates procedures.

You’ll be fully supported and closely supervised initially, with structured opportunities to expand your knowledge and take ownership of a wider range of duties as you progress.
