Job overview

A permanent vacancy has arisen within the Estates & Facilities Directorate for an experienced and motivated Estates Manager to join Barts Health NHS Trust. This role is ideal for candidates with a strong Estates Management background who are looking to advance their careers within a highly specialised and supportive hospital environment.

As a key member of the St Bartholomew’s Hospital Estates team, you will lead the strategic and operational management of the building fabric to maintain a safe, compliant, and high-quality environment. While your focus will be the iconic St Bartholomew’s site, balancing modern clinical needs with Grade I listed heritage, you will be part of a larger mission to deliver excellence across one of the UK’s leading healthcare providers. For an informal discussion please contact: Gareth Boddy [[email protected]]

Main duties of the job

In this vital role, you will oversee the structural integrity and compliance of the hospital’s infrastructure, ensuring the building fabric supports the world-class care provided at the Barts Heart Centre and throughout the site. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing multidisciplinary estates team and specialist contractors to ensure high standards of fabric maintenance, from heritage sash windows to modern roofing systems.
  • Ensuring statutory compliance across critical areas, including Fire Door safety (HTM 05-02) and Asbestos Management, acting as an Authorised Person for the Hospital.
  • Managing complex fabric projects, including "Regent Street Disease" remediation, drainage overhauls, and security enhancements, while maintaining the hospital’s risk register.
  • Coordinating reactive and planned maintenance via CAFM systems to minimise disruption to clinical services and preserve our historic estate.
  • Fostering a culture of excellence, providing the training, technical guidance, and business case support your team needs to succeed.
