Job overview

Are you a pharmacy technician who is passionate about innovation and wants to be at the heart of a major digital transformation in NHS medicines management? This is a rare and exciting opportunity to take a leading role in shaping the future of how medicines are prescribed and administered at Salisbury District Hospital.

As our EPMA Lead Pharmacy Technician, you will join the Pharmacy Digital Care Team — a forward-thinking, multidisciplinary group working at the cutting edge of NHS digital innovation. You will work directly with pharmacists, clinicians, nurses, and IT colleagues to implement and continuously improve our Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA) system across the Trust.

This is more than a pharmacy technician role. This is a chance to lead, influence, and leave a lasting legacy. You will help design safer systems, train colleagues across the hospital, and drive real improvements in patient safety — all while developing your own skills in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Main duties of the job

Take a lead role in building and configuring the EPMA, including all ongoing formulary maintenance in line with local and national guidance

Add new medicines, protocols, and administration routes to the EPMA system in collaboration with digital teams and clinical teams

Conduct and document rigorous testing of all new software releases, both during and after implementation

Identify, record, and manage clinical and medicines management risks associated with the EPMA system to minimise patient harm

Deliver EPMA training to all end users across the Trust — from nurses and doctors to pharmacy staff — adapting your style to diverse professional audiences
