The vacancy offers the opportunity to be part of a growing vibrant team, providing effective emergency medicine to the people of Gateshead and surrounding area, working to bring about dynamic change in the way patients requiring emergency care are managed.

Our department presently has a 4 bedded (expandable to 8) Resus pod with a dedicated paediatric resus bay. We have recently expanded to 3 eight room monitored majors’ pods, 2 Triage rooms to assess walk in patients.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for highly motivated nurses who can work under extreme pressure without compromise to patient care. You should have an ability to nurse under prolonged stressful situations with the support of a large multi-disciplinary team around you.

Interested individuals must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be organised, hardworking, and have a commitment to CPD with a willingness to undertake A&E specific training and undertake as mandatory the RCN level 1 Emergency Nurse competencies within 12 months.

There is an expectation that if appointed the post holder(s) should be willing to work day and night shifts as well as regular weekends.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To promote and deliver patient centred care aligned with the Trust vision and Nursing and Midwifery strategy.
  • To take a lead role in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse/Deputy Sister.
  • To deliver all aspects of care and may be required to demonstrate procedures and supervise qualified and/or unqualified staff.
  • Responsible for the patient’s clinical journey along agreed patient care pathways, supported by evidence-based practice.
  • To provide the highest standard of safe, effective and compassionate care through the effective use of evidence-based practice in line with agreed local and national standards and the NMC Code.
  • To support a continuously improving service, in line with the clinical governance framework, Trust objectives, and the NHS performance framework.
  • To provide clinical advice and support to the nursing and multi -professional team to facilitate the effective delivery of care to patients at all times.
  • To continually develop professionally to ensure the post holder has the appropriate level of skill, knowledge and competence to meet service/specialty requirements.
  • To participate in Preceptorship/ mentorship and development programmes.
