Our day surgery unit (DSU) are recruiting for a band five Recovery Practitioner, Care to Join us?

If you could work as part of a multidisciplinary professional team to provide high standards of care individualised acer for the people who use our services whilst maintaining privacy and dignity at all times, then this is the role for you.

You will provide high quality nursing care for all patients on the day case pathway and provide safe immediate post operative care to a wide range of both adult and paediatric patients undergoing a variety of day surgery procedures in primary recovery.

To ensure high standards of patient care is given in accordance with agreed policies and procedures.

To adhere to all theatre and Trust policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients’ visitors and staff to maintain quality standards. Understand the roles and responsibilities regarding safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults and have a responsibility to access training.

Main duties of the job

Safe care of a patient post anesthetic including:

  • care of the airway.
  • pain management.
  • wound care.
  • Being aware of immediate post operative complications.
  • responding to the needs of the deteriorating patient.
  • Reassuring anxious or confused patients
  • Good communication with all members of the day surgery team

  • Ensure effective assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care through the development of written care plans
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals
  • Ensure safe recovery of patients’ post-surgery
  • Responsible for carrying out post-operative telephone follow up for patients the day after their surgery
  • Ensure that all learners are guided and assessed to effectively achieve their objectives and standards of care
  • Develop effective communication with the multidisciplinary team, relatives and other nursing staff to ensure they receive clear and accurate information
  • Recognise and respond to emergency situations
  • Supervise and participate in the education and training of other members of the team
