The role:

Join NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde as a Domestic Assistant / Ward Hostess and play a vital role in supporting safe, clean and welcoming healthcare environments for patients, staff and visitors. You will contribute directly to patient care by ensuring high standards of cleanliness and, where required, supporting food and beverage services within clinical settings.

Working both independently and as part of a wider facilities team, you will help deliver essential services across wards and departments. Band 2 roles are not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker or Health and Care Worker visa routes.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Duration: Permanent
  • Location: Inverclyde Royal Hospital
  • Hours: Part Time (Offering 28.48 hours or 14.4 hours)
  • Working Pattern: Monday-Friday (07:30-13:30/17:00-20:00)

Please note the salary is pro rata for part-time hours

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver a high-quality domestic service across wards, clinical and non-clinical areas in line with national standards
  • Follow cleaning schedules and procedures to maintain a safe and hygienic environment
  • Use cleaning equipment and materials safely and effectively in accordance with guidelines
  • Support ward-based catering services including meal preparation, regeneration and beverage service when required
  • Dispose of waste appropriately in line with infection control and health and safety policies
  • Communicate effectively with staff, patients and visitors, maintaining a professional and courteous approach
  • Work flexibly as part of a team or independently, responding to service needs and priorities

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • Knowledge of domestic cleaning services within a healthcare or similar environment
  • Understanding of health and safety, infection control and COSHH regulations
  • Training or willingness to learn the use of cleaning equipment and machinery
  • Elementary Food Hygiene knowledge or willingness to achieve certification
  • Good communication and customer care skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to meet service demands
