As Directorate Manager, you will lead the Emergency Department management team with responsibility for all operational aspects of business activity, financial and performance management and strategic planning.

You will be part of our Senior Management Team playing a vital role in shaping the future of our Urgent & Emergency Care Services whilst striving to improving performance and patient experience.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of the Medicine Clinical Board, to lead the operational and strategic priorities with autonomy and resilience and use your influencing skills to drive and positively impact the service going forward.

Main duties of the job

The primary duties of the post are to play a key role in leading and contributing to the overall management and strategic direction of the service and to develop and deliver robust service plans and key objectives within the Directorate.

The post holder will be professionally accountable to the Deputy Director of Operations and accountable to the Clinical Director for Emergency Medicine.

Along with Clinical Director and Lead Nurse, the post holder is a key member of the Directorate Management Team; accountable for optimising the resources of the Directorate in order to deliver safe and effective patient care and for fostering an environment of continuous improvement.

The post holder will be jointly responsible for formulating and implementing business/service plans to deliver the strategic aims of the Directorate and to work with the Clinical Board to deliver elements of the annual plan and UHB’s objectives.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Medicine Clinical Board

Medicine see and treat over 140,000 people through our emergency pathways into secondary care with a focus on supporting them to get home at the earliest opportunity.

We are predominantly known for emergency and acute work, but we also deliver a broad range of other services within the Board.  These include respiratory, gerontology, diabetes, gastroenterology, dermatology, cancer and general medicine operating across the University Hospital of Wales and University Hospital Llandough.

We have a dedicated, skilled workforce of Medical, Clinical, Nursing, Therapy, Professional and Administrative staff of approximately 2000 people working in Medicine to deliver care to the population we serve.
