Job overview

We are seeking to recruit a  highly motivated and committed Diagnostic Ophthalmic Technician to join our friendly, dynamic and enthusiastic team at UHDB.

The successful candidates will be required to provide diagnostic support for the Ophthalmology services provided by Queen’s Hospital, Burton-upon-Trent which includes the Treatment Centre Burton Hospital, Samuel Johnson Community Hospital Lichfield, and Sir Robert Peel Community Hospital Tamworth.

The post holder will be part of the Ophthalmology team working in a busy Ophthalmology department. The team consists of Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, Orthoptists, Diagnostic Ophthalmic Technicians, nursing and administrative staff.

Main duties of the job

Clinical duties will include

  • Visual function assessment using automated equipment to select and perform visual fields and assess visual acuity.
  • Visual function assessment using automated equipment to include: Optical Coherence Tomography of the optic nerve and retinal nerve fibre layer Optical Coherence Tomography of the macula area of the retina Static perimetry using the Humphrey Visual Field analyser Fundus/Retinal photography
  • Optical Coherence Tomography of the optic nerve and retinal nerve fibre layer
  • Optical Coherence Tomography of the macula area of the retina
  • Static perimetry using the Humphrey Visual Field analyser
  • Fundus/Retinal photography

Administrative duties will include:

  • Data input.
  • Dealing with telephone, email and verbal enquiries.
  • Supporting the Orthoptic department with general administrative duties.
  • Other administrative duties as advised by the Orthoptist management.
