The Urology Team at The Royal Marsden Hospital have an international reputation for high quality patient care, education and research and its partnership with the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) has created the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe. . The gateway to treatment at RMH is through the innovative and award-winning nurse-led urology diagnostic service which is the first nurse-led urology diagnostic service is Europe. This has now been successfully running for 4 years. An opportunity has arisen for a Urology Diagnostic Nurse Specialist to join this established team.

The successful applicant will work with the Diagnostic Team to support patients through this expidited pathway. You should have experience in the field of Urology  and advanced practice skills including phlebotomy, cannulation, biops or cystoscopy assistance and catheterisation You should have excellent interpersonal skills and a professional manner, be able to prioritise and organize your workload and work under pressure. You will be expected to work across both of our inner london  sites (Chelsea and Cavendish Square).

Main duties of the job

The Diagnostic Nurse Specialist will place quality at the heart of practice by working with the Nurse-Consultant led Diagnostic Team in delivering evidence based individualised care, through holistic needs assessment, planning and evaluation of care.

  • To assist in the provision of professional and clinical leadership and expertise in the care of the patient under your care, acting as a resource and consultant to provide information and support to patients, carers and staff.
  • To liaise effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary health care team so as to achieve a synchronised specialist service.
  • To develop or contribute to the formulation of patient information.
  • To develop or contribute to the formulation of policies.
  • To provide informal and formal teaching, for patients, staff and carers as relevant e.g. academic courses provided by The School.
