The Lead Nurse is accountable and responsible to the Associate Director of Nursing (ADON) for Diabetes Specialist Nursing (DSN). The post holder will be required to manage the day-to-day nursing operations within the Diabetes Service, providing effective leadership, operational management and ensuring robust systems of communication, governance and training.
The post holder will work closely with the Divisional Manager and ADON to deliver key access targets for Diabetes services re-designing services as appropriate to ensure the Departments’ key strategic objectives are met.
The post holder will, in conjunction with the Diabetes Clinical Lead, lead and manage the DSN team and support the implementation of the Diabetic Pump service and future service developments as appropriate.
Supporting the Divisional Manager to progress service redesign of Insulin Pump Service, in line with national and local priorities, ensuring that developments are discussed with key stakeholders • Continually monitor quality of care provision, ensuring that all access and quality targets are achieved, and high standards of clinical care are maintained. Initiate remedial action where necessary. • In conjunction with the Clinical Service Lead and Divisional Manager, develop the service strategy for Diabetes and delivering agreed service objectives within the Specialist Nursing Team. • Work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies to ensure services meet the changing patient care needs. • Participate in the development of business plans to continually improve services and effectively utilise resources whilst ensuring the safe delivery of patient care. • Responsible for proposing and implementing clinical policies. • Review staffing establishments and skill mix with the Divisional Manager and ADON to ensure safe staffing within budgetary provision. • Working with Clinical Lead and Divisional Manager, responsible for identifying and implementing schemes to contribute to the Division’s Cost Improvement Programme • Line management responsibility for Diabetes Specialist Nurses. • Work within the Trust Human Resource policies on all staffing matters • Develop, implement, and maintain a competency-based training programme for all Specialist Nurses working within Diabetes
