Dermatology Specialist Nurse

The post holder will ensure that safe care is provided to patients at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust, providing specialist Dermatology advice and support to patients, relatives, carers and other health care professionals. The post holder will provide clinical expertise to the Dermatology team, acting as a role model in the delivery of patient care.

The post holder will work closely with and support the Dermatology and multi-disciplinary team members in delivering high quality patient focused care to Dermatology patients and their families. They will assist in monitoring and maintaining policies, staff and service development within the department.

The post holder is expected to support, supervise and teach staff, within the specialist area whilst always acting in a manner consistent with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, carrying out his/her duties in accordance with Trust policies and procedures

Main duties of the job

  • Ensure patient safety is maintained.
  • Manage patient care and adjust treatments within agreed protocols.
  • Assist in the running of nurse-led clinics.
  • Provide specialist nursing advice, support and supervision to patients.
  • Work closely with other professionals to provide a multidisciplinary service in both primary and secondary care settings.
  • Responsible for carrying out highly visible specialist clinical practice within a designated group of patients as part of an MDT.
  • To be involved in teaching the multidisciplinary team, patients and their families
  • Actively promote best practice, ensuring all care is evidence based.
  • Be professionally responsible for adherence to Trust policies and procedures.
  • Lead / participate in audits of practice, research and clinical effectiveness in accordance with the Divisional audit plan.
  • Participate in the development of policies, protocols and guidelines associated with the specialty.
  • To triage and prioritise patient referrals.
  • Utilise non-medical prescribing to improve patient care.
  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous records and ensure records are clear, concise, legible. and confidential.
  • Actively assess and manage risk within the area in accordance with Health and Safety.
  • Works as both a team member and without direct supervision.
