Job overview

Gardner Unit is looking for a band 6 Deputy Ward Manager who desirably has previous forensic nursing experience.

You would be a committed and competent Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) looking for a new challenge and development opportunities seeking an opportunity to make a real difference to young people and carers. You must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work under pressure on a busy, inpatient ward.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will take charge of the shifts on a rotational basis, act as a primary nurse to service users and their carers, as well as being responsible for the establishment and maintenance of effective communication with all relevant personnel who contribute to the care of the service user both internal and external to the Trust.

The post holder will, in collaboration with the ward manager, ensure continuous clinical and professional development for ward staff through on the job coaching, mentoring, audit, regular supervision, and ward based training of less experienced staff.

The post holder will deputise for the ward manager as required and promote multi-disciplinary team working whilst leading predominantly on nursing issues and leadership.

The post holder will be expected to act into duty manager role occasionally in a supporting role to staff across prestwich site.
