Job overview

The post holder will:

  • Provide a safe and stimulating environment for all the children in accordance with good childcare practice.
  • Assist the Day Nursery Manager in the overall management of the Day Nursery and Playscheme in line with OFSTED and Trust Policies and Guidelines.
  • To support and deputise the Nursery Managers covering the full range of service in their absence as required.

Main duties of the job

  • MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST:

General responsibilities

To deputise for the Nursery Manager when needed

Act as Key Person for named children carrying out observations and developmental reports for each child, meeting with parents as appropriate

To undertake and lead on additional responsibilities such as SENCO, training co-ordinator, safeguarding Officer etc.

To be aware of the importance of each child’s individual background and varied cultural needs ensuring the service provided is done so in a non-discriminatory manner and promotes positive images for all groups within society.

Actively promote and support safeguarding of children in the nursery ensuring that all staff observe the nursery policy and procedures, to undertake the borough training for ‘designated safeguarding lead’ working alongside the manager.

Knowledge of EYFS and OFSTED regulations and a good understanding of childcare issues and child development

To undertake shared responsibility for ensuring the nursery is a safe environment for staff and children by carrying out daily risk assessments and reporting any issues to the nursery manager

Supervise and support Nursery Practitioners, students and volunteers

Assist the nursery manager in managing the nursery on a day to day basis.  Covering the manager’s responsibilities and deputising when they are off site.

To assist the Nursery Manager in the day to day running of the nursery. To work closely with the Nursery Practitioners, providing a safe and caring environment. The Deputy Nursery Manager needs to deputise for the Nursery Manager when they are absent and be the point of contact.
