Job overview

We are seeking a Band 8b Deputy Divisional Midwifery and Nursing Director to work alongside our Divisional Midwifery and Nursing Director and join our dedicated senior leadership team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. The post holder will cover the Women’s Health portfolio which includes maternity, gynaecology, breast services and the SAFE Centre (Sexual Assault Referral Centre).

The maternity service support approximately 4300 births per year offering 4 birth place options. We have level 3 neonatal unit on site and we are the maternal medicine centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria. We also provide fetal medicine services to our local population.

Applications are sought from midwifery leaders with significant operational management experience at Band 8a level or above who are committed to enhancing standards of midwifery care. Applications are welcomed from engaging leaders with a breadth of midwifery experience who can demonstrate the ability to lead service change. The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate they are committed to the delivery of continuity of carer and able to work collaboratively with service users and the wider multi-disciplinary team to enhance service provision.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will have a defined portfolio that may be subject to change in accordance with service and divisional requirements.

The role is a senior midwifery/nursing leadership role and as such the post holder will be a highly professional role model, capable of deputising internally and externally for the Divisional Midwifery and Nursing Director. The post holder must possess the professional, operational and strategic knowledge and relevant attributes to lead the midwifery and nursing teams, manage organisational change and address quality issues when required.

The post holder will be required to work collaboratively to ensure we deliver excellent care with compassion. This is a key role for the division to ensure the Nursing, Midwifery & AHP and Patient Experience and Involvement Strategies and Maternity and Neonatal transformation strategy are delivered alongside performance objectives and workforce KPIs.
