Job overview

This is a pivotal role for the operational delivery of UHNM. The individual will work with and be part of a consistent approach to the delivery of corporate operations including the oversight and management of delivery, planning and performance. This includes oversight of the daily site operational delivery, that includes the appropriate planning and mitigation that supports the smooth flow of patients through the hospital for both planned and emergency pathways.

The Deputy Chief Operating Officer will contribute to delivery of the Trust's strategic plan, by working in partnership with the Executive team, Care Group teams and external organisations and commissioners, to achieve the Trust's corporate objectives and to make a positive contribution to the provision of health services across the local health economy.

The post holder will deputise for the Chief Operating Officer and work closely with the Care Group teams to ensure the safe and effective day to day operations of the organisation are maintained.

Main duties of the job

This post will have an important role in assuring the delivery of the Trusts corporate objectives and maintaining safe and effective care across the University Hospitals of North Midlands, the Deputy COO will be responsible for their own portfolio of work but also working as a team across the corporate operations directorate, taking lead in corporate projects and deputising for the Chief Operating Officer as appropriate. We are seeking an applicant with a strong track record of operating at a senior level within a healthcare setting, who is able to manage large and complex projects in an ever changing environment.  The successful candidate will have an understanding of the current strategic political landscape in the NHS and experience of operating within such a context to balance the priorities of quality, performance and finance.  The appointed individual will need to demonstrate resilience, exceptional influencing skills and have the ability to work across large clinical care groups.
