Job overview

We now have a vacancy for a full time Decontamination Supervisor to work with the Hospital’s Sterilization and Disinfection Unit (HSDU) at the Royal Oldham Hospital, which is part of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust.

The HSDU is responsible for the decontamination and sterilisation of invasive reusable medical devices. The HSDU is a purpose-built facility at the Royal Oldham Hospital and serves as the sterile services department for the organisation and beyond, ensuring that medical devices are made safe for use between each patient. The service is quality-driven, in line with the departments ISO 13485 Accreditation.

The successful candidate will undertake decontamination science duties to assist in providing a specialised decontamination and resupply of medical devices service, contributing to the clinical care of the patient. You will supervise the day-to-day operation of decontamination services, to meet the demands of the department’s workload.

Main duties of the job

  • To participate in the provision of a specialised decontamination of medical devices service contributing to the clinical care of the patient.
  • To perform a full range of decontamination duties.
  • Manages Decontamination records in own area of work.
  • Provide a high quality, productive, and timely service to all customers.
  • To ensure departmental Standard Operating Procedures are adhered to by all Healthcare Science staff in accordance with national healthcare guidance and the HSDU Quality Management System.
  • Plan your own workload and that of direct reports with minimal supervision.
  • To provide front-line stewardship of the HSDU and day-to-day leadership, direction, and supervision of decontamination technicians.
  • This role involves exposure to blood and body fluids.
