JOB SUMMARY
The post holder will: -
Be responsible for the provision of a high quality, evidence-based CT service. The post holder will understand the importance of data collection and the role of the Radiology Information System (RIS) and Picture Archiving Communications System (PACS) in the functioning of the service.
Participate in 7-day working rota.
Participate in the supervision and teaching of other less experienced radiographers, assistant practitioners and student radiographers.
Trainee CT radiographers will commit to a CT training programme and development that requires flexibility within the department (within an agreed timeframe)
KEY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Delivery
Undertake a wide range of CT and radiographic imaging procedures to a high diagnostic standard.
Demonstrate competency in performing a wide range of CT imaging examinations and in assisting with interventional procedures if required.
Make decisions based on professional knowledge and experience.
Liaise closely with the CT Lead with regards to workflow and the day to day running of the department.
Assess patient understanding of proposed imaging examination and where appropriate gain informed consent or work within the required legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to examination.
Maintain good communication with patients/clients and relatives/carers ensuring that their individual needs are met and address any issues which have been identified.
Be familiar with and adhere to the Ionising Radiation Regulations (NI) 2017 and Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (NI) 2018.
Ensure the safe use and maintenance of highly specialist imaging equipment and adhere to all departmental safety procedures.
Take responsibility for overseeing the ordering and receiving of medicine/drugs in keeping with the Trust Medicine Management Policy, including overseeing and countersigning orders undertaken by non-registered staff.
Required to maintain a high personal standard of clinical excellence.
Participate in audit, reflective practice and risk management to ensure optimum standards of care.
Quality
Work as a member of the CT/Plain Film Imaging team to ensure the provision of a high quality service.
Provide leadership and supervision to more junior radiographers in difficult situations such as high demand periods.
Delegate appropriate tasks and supervise radiographers, assistant practitioners to achieve the desired quality of patient care.
Ensure that the HSC values and behaviours are upheld at all times and that poor behaviour is challenged.
Ensure that checks are done in the area of work to ensure that all images have been sent to PACS and that all referrals have been addressed.
Perform quality assurance tests relating to CT and Plain Film.
Responsible for ensuring that the QA programme is implemented and monitored.
Actively contribute to the content and development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in CT imaging.
Knowledge of The Quality Standard for Imaging accreditation in order to assist in the departmental preparation for inspection and maintenance thereafter.
Professional Responsibilities
Ensure staff are aware of and act in accordance with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, protocols and Codes of Conduct.
Identify and address poor performance and practice including image quality and discuss with the Modality Lead.
Ensure personal and professional development in accordance with the Health Care and Professions Council (HCPC). Maintain HCPC registration and provide evidence of details.
Participate in staff induction and training as required.
Attend post-registration training and education courses as directed by the RSM.
Demonstrate commitment through regular attendance and efficient completion of duties.
Contribute to a safe environment.
Ensure effective and economic use of resources and the safe working order of all equipment.
Report all near miss and incidents and record using the DatixWeb.
