The Royal Marsden Hospital is one of Europe’s largest Oncology centres and was the world’s first hospital dedicated to cancer research, diagnosis, treatment and education with sites in Chelsea, Cavendish Square and Sutton.   This post is based at our Chelsea site.  We are currently inviting applications from enthusiastic radiographers for a  band 6 radiographer to rotate in CT and MRI.  Participation in the residential on call service is not expected.   The successful candidate should be an innovative, highly motivated radiographer with good communication skills, who is keen to contribute positively to the expanding CT and MRI service. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a commitment to professional development and show a keen interest in the future of their profession and the diagnostic imaging services. Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to be flexible in their approach as the department will operate between 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and Saturday 8am -5pm.

The post holder will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team in the provision of an efficient and effective diagnostic imaging service.  The post holder will liaise with the clinicians caring for a patient, other departments and other departmental staff within the multi-disciplinary team.   The post holder will be required to rotate between CT and MRI.

While working within an oncological environment the post holder will be required to interact directly with terminally ill patients as well as being exposed at times to distressing and emotional situations. Patient presentation will include the unconscious, uncooperative, incapacitated, incompetent, distressed, disorientated, and those with physical and mental disabilities. The post holder will have responsibility for the timely, efficient and courteous provision of imaging services within the available resources.

The post holder will be expected to be flexible in their approach to the department and service and will be required to be flexible and work at our other locations as and when required; including but not limited to Chelsea, and our Sutton and Cavendish Square sites. Participation in the on-call provision is not expected.

• To ensure protocols and standards are maintained and improved to produce best diagnostic information and patient care. •    To perform imaging examinations as an operator under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations.  •    To follow the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) guidelines, local rules, and the departmental standard operating procedures. •    To comply with accurate patient identification procedures •    To ensure referrals are justified correctly and booked in a timely manner.  •    To give advice where appropriate on the validity of requested examinations.   •    To be aware of Radiation safety when undertaking CT examinations and ensure the safety and protection of patients, staff and carers are adhered to.  •    To perform standard equipment Quality Assurance (QA), record results accurately and alert the Superintendent radiographer/medical physics as required. •    To assess specific communication needs of individual patients and to ascertain from the patient, patient’s guardian or the referrer, patient’s suitability and consent for receipt of intravenous contrast media. •    To anticipate where communication difficulties might make completion of the CT checklist impossible and to implement alternative methods to ensure that patient safety is maintained. •    To administer intravenous contrast via a pressure injector.   •    To give advice on aftercare following interventional procedures and bruising/extravasations post intravenous contrast injection •    To accurately record/retrieve data on patients allergy status with particular reference to intravenous contrast
