The post holder will be a highly experienced, qualified CT radiographer, leading and developing the CT departments and accountable for the modality’s professional actions. They will be accountable for the delivery of a safe, high quality computer tomography service to meet key performance measures against national and local requirements. This includes all current and future CT services, delivered cross site, across Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust.
The postholder will be responsible for the strategic vision for the CT service and representing the service at a senior level within the Trust, along with external forums and stakeholders. The postholder will be accountable to the Head of Radiology. They will provide line management and professional leadership for the CT team through mentorship, teaching, appraisal and the application of human resource policies. Head of radiology will devolve delegated budgetary responsibility to postholder for specialist service, ensuring a cost-effective approach is maintained.
The post holder will provide specialist education and training to other staff. They will provide expert knowledge and leadership within the modality for the development of strategies to improve quality, efficiency and productivity.
Maintain competence as a CT Superintendent and subspecialist in clinical CT in accordance with the standards of conduct, performance and ethics as set down by the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and College of Radiographers as a key member of a multidisciplinary team.
Maintain expertise in operating the highly complex medical devices used in delivering the practical aspects of the service
Comply with radiology standard operating procedures for escalating significant findings to the referrers.
Regularly review the current developments in diagnostic imaging, making recommendations for changes in practice informed by NICE, Royal College of Radiologists and College of Radiographers and other evidence-based guidelines.
Take personal responsibility for the checking of images for correct patient identification and diagnostic quality, working in close association with the CT radiographers and consultant radiologists to ensure that the diagnostic standard is maintained.
Take responsibility for the adequate protection of patients and staff against hazards.
Ensure that good ergonomic practice is adopted so that repetitive strain injuries are not induced.
Recognize and act on signs of deteriorating health and act accordingly, knowing where to find and how to use emergency equipment.
Review and revise protocols, procedures and policies in conjunction with the Clinical Director and other practitioners to enhance and improve service quality.
Monitor daily checks and testing of emergency equipment as per standard operating procedures.
