We have an exciting opportunity to appoint an Ophthalmology Research Fellow for a full time (shared) post based at Southampton General Hospital and Salisbury District Hospital. The Fellow would be expected to have commitments in both the hospitals. The timetable would be tailored to reflect the Fellow’s Personal Development Plan and career aspirations.
This post would both suit an enthusiastic Doctor at entry level or a middle level trainee who wishes to develop a special interest in Medical Retina or a doctor working through the CESR route.
A commitment to audit, appraisal, teaching, clinical governance is expected. The successful candidate will be encouraged to participate in weekly teaching sessions in Salisbury and Southampton. They will be encouraged to publish papers and present in regional, national and international conferences.
4 days a week will be worked in Salisbury and one day will be in Southampton.

This is a shared full-time research post based at Southampton General Hospital and Salisbury District Hospital. The job would cover three broad domains: research skills, generic skills and speciality skills.
The Fellow would be expected to have commitments both at Southampton and Salisbury. The timetable would be tailored further to reflect the Fellow’s Personal Development Plan and career aspirations. They would gain experience in research methodology and processes by working with the experienced clinical trials team at Southampton on Wednesdays.
They will be expected to attend NIHR research fellow events and prepare an annual report on their progress.
They will attend the Research clinics at Southampton on Friday. The rest of their time will be based in Salisbury.
They will be encouraged to publish papers and present in regional, national and international conferences. They will work closely with the Regional teaching programme and will attempt to increase awareness in the local trainees about the ongoing CRN Wessex research activities. They will be expected to attend NIHR events organised for research fellows and provide educational reports to the NIHR.
