Job overview

The Grange University Hospital (GUH) team are excited to advertise the opportunity for a skilled pharmacist to join us as a Critical Care and Surgical Directorate Pharmacist role, with approximately 10 hours per week dedicated to Pharmacy Education and Training (E+T).

As a Specialist and Critical Care Centre, we treat our Health Board's most unwell patients.  In this fast-paced high acuity environment, well-developed clinical, organisational and leadership skills are vital. You will be an integral part of the Critical Care and Surgical Pharmacy and Directorate teams, and of the Pharmacy E+T team.

Delivering high quality care needs the best people to be inspired and supported by the best leaders. At GUH we are committed to developing our Pharmacy workforce.  This role offers candidates a fantastic opportunity to develop in all five advanced practice domains and provides the ideal environment to fulfil your potential.

The role will be extremely rewarding and requires an individual with sound clinical knowledge and reasoning skills, and significant experience of working within Surgery and/or Critical Care. Collaborative working with Directorate teams and cross-site E+T teams will be a key aspect of the role.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Clinical Support Services Divisional Pharmacist at GUH to deliver a quality patient-centred service within the specialties of Critical Care and Surgery. The candidate will also work closely with E+T Lead Pharmacists.

Main duties of the job

Key areas of responsibility will include:

The delivery of specialist pharmacy services within GUH, working as part of our team of Critical Care and Surgical Pharmacists. This includes collaborative working across all pharmacy sites to maintain continuity of care.

The provision of clinical leadership and developmental support to pharmacists, technicians and assistants working within this team.

Working with MDT colleagues to develop policies and guidelines that promote evidence based prescribing.

Working closely with directorates within the Division of Surgery on clinical and financial medicines-related governance.

The delivery of clinical education and training to the Pharmacy team and multi-disciplinary colleagues; focusing on developments within Critical Care and Surgery.

You will be encouraged to continue to advance your clinical knowledge and progress your skills as a Critical Care and Surgery Specialist Pharmacist. This is your chance to be a clinical leader, within a pharmacy team striving to enhance patient care.

Acting as the point of expertise on site for Pharmacy E+T programmes, and as the Health Board lead for a designated area of E+T practice e.g., novice prescribing.

Working collaboratively with site colleagues and the wider E+T team to facilitate the delivery of Pharmacy training programmes.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
