Job overview

Working with a vision of “delivering excellence in all everything we do”, the post holder will be based within Adult Critical Care/ CCOT and will be expected to work flexibly across campuses as required.

The post holder will be a proactive role model  who provide comprehensive leadership  on the provision of clinical education and assessment of competence in Adult Critical Care and CCOT.

The role will entail  working with key stakeholders across the organisation and wider health care community to ensure that best practice; educational standards, appropriate curriculum development and relevant teaching techniques are in place.

Main duties of the job

Clinical

To lead the development of all Adult Critical Care and CCOT staff, and foster empowerment through knowledge to achieve excellence through the delivery of evidenced based nursing practice.

To oversee the coordination and orientation of new staff / starters to the organisation and Adult Critical Care/ CCOT.

To promote reflective practice, clinical supervision and experiential learning opportunities developing learning culture in the clinical environment.

Demonstrate the use of evidence based specialist skills and practice in the care of critically ill ward based patients.

Support staff rotating through Adult Critical Care and CCOT – including staff from Maternity and ED

Managerial

To ensure the delivery of care is in accordance with the policies, procedures, guidelines and practices of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust

To manage the Educators to ensure individuals’ personal and development needs are met.

To ensure that continuing professional development is provided for all staff, including students and elective placements, so that the required level of knowledge and competence is maintained / achieved.

To ensure the Education team maintain the mandatory training database

Infection Control

To maintain a clean, safe environment, ensuring adherence to the Trust’s standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control. The post holder is accountable for minimising the risks of infections and for the implementation of the Code of Practice for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections as outlined in the Health Act 2006. This includes receiving assurance of risk and embedding evidence based practice into daily routines of all staff.

Information Governance

All staff have an individual responsibility for creating accurate records of their work and for making entries into and managing all NHS records effectively in line with the Health Record Keeping Policy and other Health Records and Corporate Records Management policies and procedures in order to meet the Trust’s legal, regulatory and accountability requirements.

Health and Safety

  • Whilst the aim of the Trust is to promote a co-operative and constructive view of health and safety concerns in the organisation, all staff must be aware that a wilful or irresponsible disregard for safety matters may give rise to disciplinary proceedings.

Governance

  • To actively participate in governance activities to ensure that the highest standards of care and business conduct are achieved.

Health and Wellbeing

WORKING CONDITIONS

The post holder must be able to:

  • work within unpleasant clinical working conditions (for example exposure to body fluids)
  • concentrate in an intense and sometimes noisy environment
  • cope with potentially violent and threatening situations
  • work with the critical care outreach team in ward environments across the Trust
  • work on any of the Adult Critical Care units as required
  • fulfil Trust health and safety policies and procedures when performing risk associated procedures including dealing with hazardous substances
