Serenity Sexual Assault Referral Centre – Northampton

Band: 4 for callouts; shift fees £30 weeknights / £35 weekends & BH

Due to the nature of this work, only Female workers are used

Must be able to attend Centre within 30 mins of callout

Serenity is a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) providing crisis response and longer term care for children and adults who have been raped or seriously sexually assaulted .

Crisis Workers provide the first response for clients who report to the police or self report.

Their role is to open up and manage the attendance at Serenity, providing information, practical help and emotional support to the client, liaising with police officers attending, assisting the Forensic Physician whilst they carry out a Forensic Medical Examination and forensically cleaning the examination suite after use.  They do not provide the follow-up service, which is referred to other Serenity staff.

Main duties of the job

This is challenging but very interesting and satisfying work requiring experience of working with people in crisis, working in partnership with other services and good organizational skills.  The ability to remain calm, work under pressure and provide non judgmental support is essential.

We are looking for up to 3 people to join our small team of Crisis Workers who cover the out of hours rota – this includes weekday nights (6pm-08.30am) weekends and bank holidays (08.30-08.30).  A shift fee of £30 per night is paid for week nights and £35 for weekend and Bank Holiday shifts; if called out, the hourly rate is paid in addition, plus enhancement for unsocial hours.  Callouts are received directly from the police, or via the 24/7 helpline if a self referral.  Typical callouts last for 3-4 hours.

Flexibility of availability for rota across the whole week is essential and this role will not suit people who need an assured level of weekly income as you will not be called out on every shift.  A minimum availability for 2 shifts per week is required, but you will sometimes be asked to do more as reasonably required.
