Job overview

The peer support worker (PSW) will work as an integral part of the Derbyshire Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion Team.  The service provides early intervention to address health and social inequalities to reduce re-offending behaviours. The PSW will work with individuals to provide peer support and practical assistance to allow service users to participate in their own unique recovery journey for service users with complex needs who are in contact with the criminal justice system to receive enhanced support through appropriate diversion pathways.

Main duties of the job

  • To work with and develop supportive relationships with service receivers
  • To support individuals to identify their own achievable and meaningful recovery goals and set recovery objectives, using a range of recovery tools, techniques and lived experiences
  • To share own recovery story to provide hope, self belief and self awareness and inspire and instil confidence in peers
  • Demonstrate a caring and professional attitude and be a positive role model to multi-disciplinary team members, service receivers and carers
  • Share Knowledge of the Recovery Model and promote the support development of Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP).
  • Promote and facilitate access to community groups and networks that enable service users to participate in community activities and with partner agencies.
  • Provide relevant information to care plan co-ordinators as required and feedback information into CPA process to ensure recovery goals are integrated into future care planning.
  • Use both job related training and individual experience to guide approach and interventions.  Use professional supervision to support this process
