Applications are invited for the post of a full-time Consultant to join the Department of Stroke Medicine at our Trust. If successful you will be joining an enthusiastic and experienced stroke specialist multidisciplinary team.

Our Stroke Service admits approximately 600 patients with confirmed stroke each year. An out of hours thrombolysis service in provided in partnership with Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH). In addition, there will be some responsibility to provide cover to the acute geriatric wards at weekends.

Depending on the skills of the successful candidate an opportunity exists to take part in the acute medical on-call.

A high risk TIA service runs 5 days per week with dedicated same day carotid Doppler and MRI imaging to provide carotid endarterectomy within 48 hours as needed. At weekends the service is provided by NUH.

  • The overriding purpose is to support the provision of highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement;
  • provision with Consultant colleagues of a service, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department;
  • cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences;
  • to participate in service development and business planning;
  • professional supervision and management of junior medical staff;
  • responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing toundergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activity, locally and nationally;
  • participating in medical audit, the Trust’s Clinical Governance processes and in CPD;
  • managerial, including budgetary responsibilities where appropriate;

Full and Specialist Registration and a license to practice with the GMC is essential. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of interview or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR). The ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team is also essential.
