Main duties of the job
Become a Consultant Stroke Physician and shape the future of an ambitious and progressive stroke service at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust. This full-time role offers the flexibility of part-time work for those who prefer it. Join a team of established Consultant Stroke Physicians at NGH, where you'll contribute to a comprehensive 24/7 thrombolysis and thrombectomy service, fully supported by our 24/7 dedicated stroke specialist nurses.
Northampton General Hospital, the Primary Stroke Centre for Northamptonshire, boasts a cohesive and experienced multidisciplinary team. Our exemplary Community Stroke Team delivers a complete ICCS model and is part of our Service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor our resident medical staff, fostering their development and ensuring the highest standards of care.
- Expertly manage patients within the Hyper-Acute Stroke Unit, delivering timely and effective interventions.
- Work with our experienced multi disciplinary team to provide care to our stroke inpatients across 51 beds on Benham ward (Hyper acute and acute care) and Allebone ward (Rehabilitation)
- Contribute to our essential 7-day-a-week TIA clinic, ensuring rapid assessment and management to prevent further strokes.
- Actively participate in multidisciplinary case conferences, collaborating with colleagues to provide holistic patient care.
- Share in the on-call stroke rota (1:6, with prospective cover), providing crucial specialist input when it's needed most.
- Engage in teaching and administration, contributing to the smooth running of the department and the education of future healthcare professionals.

- Play a key role in audit and clinical governance, driving continuous improvement and ensuring the highest quality of care within the Unit.
- Support the appraisal and assessment of junior colleagues, contributing to their professional growth.
- Collaborate with fellow Consultants to further develop and enhance our Stroke Service at NGH, shaping its future direction
