Main duties of the job
- Deliver a comprehensive Interventional Radiology (IR) service, including elective and emergency procedures
- Participate in the IR on call rota supporting acute and trauma services
- Contribute to general diagnostic imaging and MDT meetings
- Support the development of specialist IR services in line with departmental priorities
- Run outpatient clinics and provide clinical consultation to referring teams
- Supervise and train junior doctors and radiology trainees
- Actively participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
- Engage in teaching, research, and service development activities
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across the Trust and referring networks
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will contribute to the delivery and ongoing development of a comprehensive Interventional Radiology (IR) service within a large tertiary teaching hospital and Major Trauma Centre.
Key responsibilities include:
- Deliver a full range of Interventional Radiology procedures, including both elective and emergency work, across vascular and non-vascular practice
- Participate in a 1:8 on-call rota, providing emergency IR services for acute, trauma and inpatients
- Support a consultant led IR service, including running outpatient clinics and managing patient pathways from referral to discharge
- Contribute to a small proportion of general diagnostic imaging, including CT, MRI, ultrasound and plain film reporting, and support relevant MDT meetings
- Provide clinical advice and consultation to colleagues across the Trust, referring hospitals, and primary care
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, patient centred care
- Supervise, train and support radiology trainees and junior doctors, contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes
- Actively participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
- Engage in service development, supporting the expansion and innovation of Interventional Radiology services
- Maintain continuing professional development (CPD) and participate in appraisal and revalidation processes
- Contribute to research activities, where appropriate, in line with departmental and Trust priorities
