We are seeking to recruit a forward thinking and enthusiastic Consultant Psychiatrist to work as part of the keen and committed Adult Rehabilitation Services Team.  This substantive, full time role is based is based at the Wesham Rehabilitation Unit, which is conveniently located between Preston and Blackpool.  You would be the Responsible Clinician to male inpatients at the unit.

The post-holder would be expected to participate on the Consultant On Call rota, for which additional remuneration would be paid.

Main duties of the job

You will work with another consultant psychiatrist, ward manager, consultant occupational therapist, pharmacy, clinical psychologist, clinical nursing leads and specialty doctor in the unit, as part of a leadership team to improve the care of patients. The post will involve providing medical leadership and input into the multidisciplinary teams, along with attendance at care coordination reviews and each patients’ monthly multidisciplinary review meeting.

The Wesham Rehabilitation Unit was opened in March 2022 and is a 24 bedded (all male) community rehab unit. The service provides a model of rehabilitation care which focuses on empowering the service users with Severe and Enduring Mental Illness (SMI) to improve their confidence, mental health and level of functioning, thereby increasing independence, autonomy and hope for the future, facilitating recovery. Length of Stay for patients in the unit is up to 18 months.

The whole rehabilitation pathway is under development, including high dependency unit beds (currently contracted within the independent sector) and the development of a community rehabilitation service. This pathway is overseen by the core team, with whom the post-holder will work closely. The post-holder is expected to contribute to assessments of and discussions about referrals for the entire pathway.

Applicants should hold full GMC registration and be included on the Specialist register of the GMC or they should be eligible for entry to the Specialist Register within 6 months of the interview date.

It is a requirement that applicants are Section 12 Approved at the time of commencing employment and have or are eligible to have Approved Clinician Status. Remuneration will be as set out in the terms of the New Consultant Contract according to previous experience.
